This simple idea was sent in by our friend Mary S, who made these for her grandson as an alternative for shop bought potato crisps. We love the way you think, Mary!

Ingredients

Turnips!

(OK, plus a brushing of olive oil, perhaps, and some light seasoning)

Method

Mary says:

"Peel the turnip as usual and the cut it into quarters then with a potato peeler make lots of slithers of turnip.

Heat up a deep fat fryer as you would for chips and then fry.

They are ready in seconds - just drain them in kitchen paper and sprinkle lightly with salt. Delicious!"

VegBox says:

"And if you're a bit squeamish about the deep frying, you can heat the oven to around 275C and bake the "slithers" in a layer on a baking tray for about an hour."

Time From Cupboard-To-Table

1 hour 10 minutes max (baking method)

Surely to goodness these are SLIVERS not "slithers" - which is what snakes do, not a noun at all!

Of course Pedant is right, but the recipe was submitted to us as "slithers" and we kind of liked it. And Waveney - you made us chuckle. Thanks for the comments, folks.

What are tags? Tags are essentially categories and are the key words that people use to describe their listings or articles. Any word can be used as a tag except for ones that are naughty and would probably not be repeatable in polite company.
